Good to know
Saba Wholesalers sells Somali groceries online with tracked delivery to the UK mainland, and in person at our cash and carry at 60–66 Nedham Street, Leicester LE2 0HA. Dinsi, bur canjeero flour, xawaash seasoning and Banadir One spiced coffee are all held in our own warehouse.
Dinsi, also spelled diinsi, is a fine reddish powder made from the sun-dried root of the likke plant, kept in Somali households as a traditional product. We sell it in 100g packs and make no health claims for it.
Bur is the Somali word for flour, and canjeero (also written canjero or anjero) is the soft, spongy flatbread made from it, cooked on a flat pan like a pancake and often eaten at breakfast. Bur canjeero is flour sold for making it.
Xawaash is the Somali spice blend, usually built on cumin, coriander, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and turmeric. Safa sells it ready-blended in 300g packs: one for rice (bariis) and one for pasta.
